Are there unique challenges that Orthodox Jews face in the workplace?
Absolutely. The biggest challenge is that of having to leave work early on Fridays in order to prepare for, and observe, the Sabbath. Although "leaving early" usually occurs during the Fall and Winter months, when the days are shorter, many Orthodox Jews still experience everything from a lack of understanding to animosity and verbal abuse from their superiors and/or fellow employees.

It goes without saying that the majority of Orthodox Jews who leave early on Friday do not see this is as an "entitlement", but rather expect to, and do, make up for the lost time.

Jewish Holidays
A similar challenge concerns the Jewish holidays. Certain holidays, including Rosh Hashanna, Yom Kippur, Succot, Shavuot, and Passover, may likewise require the employee to leave early and/or miss additional days of work. And, once again, many Orthodox Jews willingly use their paid vacation and personal days in order to observe these holidays.
