The Auckland Jewish community has a rich history and tradition, dating back to the earliest days of British sovereignty in 1840. Today there are about four-and-a-half thousand Jews in Auckland from a wide range of backgrounds; some, many generations Kiwi, some from England and Scotland, others came as refugees from Nazi Europe and more recently, immigrants from the former Soviet Union, South Africa and from Israel.

The Auckland Hebrew Congregation (AHC) represents the modern orthodox part of the community, and has 600 member families, equating to over 1,300 individuals. The AHC and its Rabbi take their halachic guidance from the London Beth Din.
